Program Objectives and Related Specific Objectives

Cognitive

  1. The student will develop a full understanding of the theological and themes of the New Testament as they relate to Old Testament thought.

  2. The historical context of Biblical revelation, which is progressive, will be understood.

  3. The student will develop a comprehensive understanding of the New Testament view of salvation and spiritual growth.

Performance

  1. The student will be able to identify and effectively communicate New Testament themes as they appear in and relate to the OT.

  2. The student will be able to communicate to others the general content and the predominant themes in each book of the New Testament.

  3. The student will be able to develop teaching and preaching outlines on those themes from the books of the New Testament.


Pre-assessment

The student will write a brief paper on course goals.


Instructional/Learning Activities

  1. The student will read the text in its entirety, listen to lecture tapes, complete the student study guide, and complete the open book exam.

  2. The student will read through the New Testament and write a two or three paragraph summation of the content of each book noting the pertinent insights gained. This is to be a typewritten paper.

  3. The student will write a 5–7 page theme paper, pre-approved by the course instructor on a New Testament character, doctrine, book or theme. Possible Term Paper Topics:

    • A New Testament book (i.e. Romans, Galatians, etc.)

    • A New Testament individual (i.e. Paul, Mary, etc.)

    • A New Testament event (i.e. Paul’s salvation, the day of Pentecost, etc.)

    • A New Testament doctrine (i.e. justification by faith, salvation, etc.)


Self-evaluation

The student will reread their brief paper concerning course goals.


Post Assessment

  1. The student will read the self-evaluation and comments by the instructor and make any corrections deemed necessary.

  2. The student will complete the course instructor evaluation.
