A systematic presentation of the major teachings of the Old Testament. The course outlines the principle doctrines of Scripture and provides a basic introduction for subsequent in‑depth studies of specific doctrines.

I. RATIONALE:

III. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND RELATED SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
A. Cognitive:

  1. To develop a full understanding of the organization and themes of the Old Testament as they relate to New Testament thought.

  2. To gain an understanding of the historical context of Biblical revelation.

  3. To learn the redemptive plan of God as seen in every book of the Old Testament.

B. Performance:

  1. The student will be able to relate the various parts of the Old Testament to one another.

  2. The student will be able to develop Bible studies based on the various books and characters of the Old Testament.

  3. The student will be able to trace the lineage of Jesus Christ through the Old Testament.

  4. Like Philip with the Ethiopian eunuch, the student will be able to use the Old Testament to preach Jesus.

IV. PREASSESSMENT:
A. The student will write a brief paper on course goals.

V. INSTRUCTIONAL/LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
A. The student will read the text in its entirety.
B. The student will complete the Study Guide.
C. The student will do the self‑test at the end of each chapter.
D. The student will complete a comprehensive outline of one Bible book from each Biblical era as presented in the text.
E. The student will write a detailed teaching outline of each chapter.
F. The student will write a 5–7 page paper on the theme: “The Importance of the Old Testament for the New Testament Church.”
G. All work must be typed and submitted to the instructor in a timely manner.

A. The student will reread their brief paper on course goals.
