About Course

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

III. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND RELATED SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
A. Cognitive:

  1. The student will understand the necessity and methodology of sermon and teaching note preparation.

  2. The student will develop a new understanding and appreciation of preaching styles and the various modes of communicating the gospel.

B. Performance:

  1. The student will be able to construct their own sermon notes in a logical and concise fashion.

  2. The student will be able to develop their own preaching style and format to communicate more effectively.

IV. PREASSESSMENT:
A. The student will write a brief paper about their course goals.

V. INSTRUCTIONAL/LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

  1. The student will read the texts in their entirety.

  2. The student will write a 5–7 page term paper on a subject of their choice from the course material.

  3. The student will complete the Study Guide based on the textbook Pentecostal Pulpit.

  4. The student will construct three sermon/teaching outlines:

    • 1 Expository: Choose a passage of scripture and expound upon it.

    • 1 Biographical Sermon: Choose a character from the Bible and draw lessons from their life.

    • 1 Topical: Choose a topic such as healing and prepare a sermon outline.

  5. The student will take the final exam.

VI. SELF-EVALUATION:
A. The student will reread their course goals and comments by the instructor.

VII. POST ASSESSMENT:
A. The student will complete the course instructor evaluation.

VIII. CORRECTIVE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:
A. The student may present one of the other messages prepared, if requested by the course instructor.
