COURSE DESCRIPTION:
An introductory study of the theology of missions from Pentecost to the present, with special emphasis on World Missions.

I. RATIONALE:
In order to fulfill the Great Commission of the church, believers need to understand the biblical principles of missions.

II. PREREQUISITES:
Dynamic Christian Foundations - RS 101

III. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND RELATED SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:

COURSE DESCRIPTION:

III. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND RELATED SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
A. Cognitive:

  1. To gain a fresh vision of what God teaches in the Bible concerning world missions.

  2. To understand the task from biblical, historical, and contemporary perspectives.

  3. To prepare the student for service spiritually and academically in the specific area of world missions.

  4. To cultivate prayer, financial support, and a readiness to serve wherever God may call.

B. Performance:

  1. To be able to develop a missionary project based on sound biblical principles.

  2. To be able to develop a program of missions support for the local church.

  3. To be able to develop teaching and preaching outlines in the area of missions.

  4. To develop a sensitivity for urban and cross-cultural missions.

IV. PREASSESSMENT:
A. The student must write a brief paper on course goals.

V. INSTRUCTIONAL/LEARNING ACTIVITIES:

  1. The textbook(s) must be read in its entirety, and the student must complete the study guide as required.

  2. The student will write a 5–7 page paper (typewritten) on the topic: Reaching My World: A Plan for Local and International Missions.

  3. Establish a regular prayer practice focused on different countries and regions of the world.

  4. The student will conduct collateral reading and keep a detailed log in the student journal provided in the study guide.

  5. The student will complete the answers to the questions posed in the student study guide.

  6. The student will review any tapes, videos, or lectures provided with the course and take detailed notes.

VI. SELF-EVALUATION:
A. Reread the self-evaluation and comments by the instructor.

VII. POST ASSESSMENT:
A. The student will reread their brief paper on course goals.
B. The student will complete the course instructor evaluation.

VIII. CORRECTIVE LEARNING OPPORTUNITIES:
A. Where possible, the student is encouraged to participate in a short-term mission experience for additional insight.
