COURSE DESCRIPTION:

This course examines what the prophets had to say to the nation of Israel and how we can apply their messages to our lives today. It also explores prophecy in the New Testament.

I. RATIONALE:
Many people are familiar with the promises found in the books of the prophets or prophecies concerning the coming of the Messiah, Jesus Christ. Others are drawn to the end-times prophecies in Ezekiel and Daniel. However, few have thoroughly studied the prophets’ messages to Israel and how they apply to our present day.

II. PREREQUISITES:
A. None

III. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND RELATED SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
A. Cognitive:

  1. To understand and know the geographical and historical contexts of each prophetic book.

  2. To gain insight into how these books relate to the New Testament.

B. Performance:

  1. The student will be able to teach others what they have learned.

  2. The student will be able to relate these books to present-day times and situations.

  3. The student will better understand the New Testament as they deepen their understanding of these books.

IV. PREASSESSMENT:
A. The student will write a brief paper on the course goals. (This is not to be handed in but is for personal reflection.)

V. INSTRUCTIONAL/LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
A. The student will read the text in its entirety.
B. The student will answer all questions contained within each lesson.
C. The student will answer all discussion questions found at the end of each lesson. (Answers must be a minimum of one paragraph and a maximum of one-half page. These answers must demonstrate the student’s complete grasp of the subject.)
D. The student will write detailed teaching notes for each lesson. These notes should expand or expound upon the material in the text (e.g., including cross-references, additional teachings, or relevant illustrations). These notes are intended to help the student teach the course to others.
E. The student will write a 5–7 page paper on a theme of their choice, selected from the material in the textbook.
F. All work must be typed and submitted to the instructor in a timely manner.
