COURSE DESCRIPTION:
The Biblical standards for the various roles and responsibilities of a pastor are examined in this course.
I. RATIONALE:
The goal of this course is to help the student understand the various functions required of a pastor in local church ministry.
II. PREREQUISITES:
A. None
III. PROGRAM OBJECTIVES AND RELATED SPECIFIC OBJECTIVES:
A. Cognitive:

To understand the concept and place of pastoral ministry in the church.

To understand the various support pastoral roles and their place in pastoral ministry.

The student will better understand the dynamics of pastoral and staff relationships, planning, and leadership.
B. Performance:

The student will be able to teach others what they have learned.

To increase the student’s ability to anticipate and resolve conflicts in the local church.

The student will be able to strategize, plan, and develop the ministry structure in the local church.

To develop a view of one’s own leadership style in relation to pastoral relations and development.
IV. PREASSESSMENT:
A. The student will write a brief paper on the goals of the course.
V. INSTRUCTIONAL/LEARNING ACTIVITIES:
A. The student will read the text in its entirety.
B. The student will complete the Study Guide.
C. The student will answer the Thought Questions at the end of each chapter. (Answers must be a minimum of one paragraph and a maximum of one-half page. These answers must demonstrate the student’s complete grasp of the subject.)
D. The student will write detailed teaching notes for each lesson. These notes should expand or expound upon the material in the text (e.g., by including cross-references, additional teachings, or illustrations relevant to the lesson). For each lesson, the student should incorporate material from at least one outside source. These notes are intended to help the student teach the course to others.
E. The student will write a 5–7 page paper on a theme of their choice, selected from the material in the textbook.
F. All work must be typed and submitted to the instructor in a timely manner.
